Meet the Therapists

Alex Buffone

MS

Prelicensed Counselor

Pronouns: she/her

If you are experiencing stress with everyday life, struggling with identity development, interested in parenting support, or simply need someone to be a sounding board, I would be a great fit. I strive to create a warm, relaxed, environment where clients can share whatever is on their minds, and we can address each concern one by one. Initially I will get to know you and what brings you to therapy. We will then begin exploring any issues that are interfering with your daily life. It is my hope that through our counseling sessions, you will feel safe to grow, develop new skills, and be a more authentic you.

I have many years of experience working with children and families using a family systems approach. I also have a great deal of experience working with individuals with neurodivergent needs and thought disorders. My style of counseling is eclectic and tailored to fit the needs of the client. I will use person-centered therapy, CBT, DBT, family systems theory, behavioral interventions, and experiential therapy to help clients achieve their goals.

As a neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ person, I value and respect your unique identity. Let's explore and embrace it together!

MS, NCC, LPC

All of us have strengths as well as struggles. As a therapist, it is one of my goals to help you learn to use your strengths to cope with difficulties in your life. Together, we will work to identify your goals and how to accomplish them. I will offer an environment where you are able to express yourself to the fullest without worry of being judged: a place where you are both respected and heard. I will meet you where you are in life and to establish what you want your future to look like. By focusing on you and your strengths, each session can be personalized to fit you.

I have spent the beginning of my career getting to know and understand those who are neurodivergent. By taking the time to get to know you, the things you care about, and what you do well, I can work with you to use these things to build new skills in your life. Together we can unpack what is difficult and what gets in your way.

I am a cognitively oriented therapist. That is a fancy way to say I pay a lot of attention to your thoughts. There are only three things in the universe you can control: your thoughts, your feelings, and your behaviors. It is your thoughts that drive your feelings and behaviors.

The better you manage your thoughts, the better you manage your emotions and your life. As a therapist, I help you to unpack your thoughts and help you to change them if they are getting in your way. I also teach you skills to better manage your emotions so you can better manage your life and build a life worth living.

You may have come across my bio as you are considering therapy. It can feel scary and out of our comfort zones to ask for help, but I commend you for doing so. I strive to make therapy a safe space where you feel supported to learn about yourself and grow/heal in any way you find necessary. I like to approach the counseling relationship from a warm, empathetic, non-judgmental, and understanding viewpoint. I understand that trauma impacts us all differently, thus I strive to keep things relaxed and I am mindful to operate through a trauma-informed lens as we all come from different walks of life with various life experiences.

I have a passion for working with complex trauma and prioritize helping clients become more grounded and connected to their bodies. I am queer identifying and have a love for working with the LBGTQIA+ community, eating disorders, and grief. I would be honored to work alongside of you through your therapeutic journey and I look forward to meeting you.

Brandi Gurcak

MS, LPC

EMDR Trained Therapist

Pronouns: she/her

Specializing in attachment and trauma, I work with individuals who are seeking to gain greater freedom to make choices around how they live in the world. This may include increasing overall well-being, developing resources for coping, and/or creating a clearer sense of purpose. Often our negative experiences can result in disconnection from our relationships, dissociation or difficulty participating wholly in our experiences, and addictive patterns. Therapy can help us to return to a more intuitive way of living which is centered in curiosity and compassion through connection.

My specialties include attachment, dissociative disorders, trauma and PTSD, chemical addiction, and hoarding. I am prepared to assist clients with issues related to identity, including systemic discrimination and/or trauma related to race, ethnicity, gender, and/or sexual orientation. Additionally, I am trained in EMDR.

We are told a lot of things growing up about who we are. I like to challenge these expectations to explore authenticity for what fits for you, and what you have outgrown for the person you want to become. Often, we take for granted aspects about our experience, which can be resources of strength in overcoming hardships. As a part of therapy, I work with clients to understand themselves and their awareness of their internal world, which can strengthen the relationship with others. I use an integrative approach that takes into account your values, cultural practices, and beliefs in how you view the world and sources of distresses.

As an LGBTQ+ clinician, I bring the impacts of societal oppression into therapy as a way of promoting community and improving our self-compassion and understanding. I focus on invisible, relational impacts from upbringing, such as emotional/psychological abuse and neglect and bullying. I am also being trained in EMDR to address trauma and stress.

Each of us faces a whole host of challenges in our lives. Whether these are challenges from our past that are still affecting us today or situations that are ongoing. Or maybe we’re having a tough time with life in general, and we’re not sure why that is, where it’s coming from, or even how to begin to process what we’re struggling with.

Whatever you may be facing, my goal in counseling is to help provide you with the space to explore whatever you are experiencing or have experienced. I want to create a space where you feel heard, seen, and understood. That way we can begin exploring what you need and want to explore, and it feels safe and helpful to do so.

Life can be unpredictable, difficult, and even painful at times. When you find yourself overwhelmed by not just everyday responsibilities, thoughts, and choices, but also with past traumas, finding help can feel like an impossible task. As a counselor, I am here not only to help you detangle your current thoughts and feelings, but also to help you understand your life journey and how you have grown into the person you are today. Regardless of how, when, or why you have found your way into a therapeutic space, my goal is to help you to tackle issues that are causing you to feel as though you are living inauthentically.

I take a highly collaborative approach to counseling, as I believe every person is the expert in their own lives. Although I can provide guidance, the knowledge that you bring into each session is invaluable in creating a plan for your healing and growth. I strive to provide each client with a safe, non-judgemental space that promotes healthy change.
